• century的基本意思有二：一是“百年”,指“100年”這段時間,二是指從耶穌的誕辰之日算起的每個百年,即“世紀”。
• “二十一世紀”應說the 21st century, century前需用序數詞,竝加定冠詞the；“十九世紀五十年代”應說the fifties of the nineteenth century。
• this century或the century指“本世紀”; last century指“上個世紀”; the last century指“過去的一百年”; next century指“下個世紀”; the next century指“以後的一百年”,有時也指“下個世紀”。
• century在躰育用語中指棒球比賽中的“一百分”。
