en-是个来源于古法语的前缀，但其前身却是拉丁语的in-,原意是in或into。在现代英语构词中，en-是个动词性的派生前缀。它与名词或形容词相缀合，构成动词，其意思相当于to put into(使...置于...)或to make(使...)。em-是en-的异体，只出现在唇辅音字母b,p与m之前。此外，前缀en-还有一个同义前缀be，也具有“使动”的含义。

3.encounter [(en( =make) +counter( =against)使面对面]
vt. find oneself faced by danger, difficulties, etc.; meet enemies; meet a friend,etc. unexpectedly 遏到危险、困难等；遭遇敌人；意外地遇见朋友等，偶然相遇，碰见
n. a sudden, unexpected meeting with someone or something 意外的相遇，遭遇；冲突，对抗，决战
举例：I never expeected to encounter so many regulations.
我没有预料到我会碰到这么多的制约。

4.emblem [(em<en( =in) +bl <bol( =throw)向里边扔]
n. symbol; badge 象征．标志；徽章 emblematic 象征性的
举例： In most cultures, the dove is seen as an emblem of peace.
在大多数文化中鸽子都被看作是和平的象征。

5.enchant [(en( =in)+chant<cant( =sing)在里边歌唱]
vt. fascinate; delight; transport; use magic on, bewitch 着迷；欣喜；使恍惚；施魔法 enchantment 着迷；恍惚；着魔 enchanter 魔法师；便人着迷者 enchantress 女巫；迷人的女人 enchanting 着迷的 enchanted

入迷的，着了魔的 enchantingly 入迷地
举例： Fairy tales with trolls always enchant my children.
出现侏儒（或巨人，生活在北欧地下洞穴里）的童话总是能使我的孩子们着迷。

6.entreat [(en( =in)+treat( =draw)在里边拉、拽]
vt. ask someone earnestly; implore恳请；乞求 entreaty恳求，哀求，恳请，乞求
entreating 恳求的，乞求的 entreatingly 哀求地
举例： The policeman entraated the suspect to surrender without violence.
警察恳请嫌疑人投降，而不要暴力反抗。

7.embargo [(em<en (=in)+bar (=bar)在某物里放人障碍物、棍子]
n. a restriction put on trade by law;a government order that ships must not enter or leave its ports; any restriction 禁止通商；禁止船只出入港口；禁止

举例： Children embody a kind of innocent joy that adults can rarely experience.
孩子们会表现出一种纯真的快乐，而这是大人极少体验到的。

9.encroach [en(=in)+croach<croch( =hook,bend)像钩子一样蜷缩在里边]
vi. on+sth go beyond what is right or natural or desirable; trespass on the rights 侵入,侵蚀；侵害权利等 encroachment 侵入，侵害，侵蚀
举例： Suburban creep is encroaching on the family farm where I grew up.
郊区的小偷正在侵害我曾经生潘过的家族农场。

10.endow [(en (=in) + dow<don ( =give)给里边]
vt. sb+with+sth give money, property, etc.for a college,a hospital, etc.; be born with qualities, etc.（向医院、学校等）捐赠；天生赋予某种资质
endowment 捐赠，捐助（款），捐赠的基金；(pl．)天赋，天资
举例：The business tycoon endowed a professorship in the university's business school.
那位商业大亨资助了这所大学商学院的一个教授职位。
